Experience

I believe that reading and writing fluency is a skill that any student can learn with the right coaching and motivation. I have 12 years of experience tutoring and teaching reading at writing, both at the college and secondary level. After earning my doctorate in English at the University of Miami, where I earned a fellowship in the Composition Department and spent 6 years tutoring and teaching literature and writing at the college level, I returned to my alma mater and spent 4 years directing its campus-wide writing and speaking program. There I ran the faculty development program in writing and trained professors across the college to teach writing in their course, I also ran the college writing center and hired, trained, and supervised more than 100 undergraduate peer tutors. I also taught the 4-credit college course on "Teaching and Tutoring in Writing." After spending nearly 10 years in higher education, I decided to make the switch to secondary education to focus on my true passion of teaching. I now teach at one of the top college-prep schools in the Cleveland area. I am certified to teach English Language Arts to grades 7-12 in the state of Ohio. I have a strong commitment to individualized instruction and empowering young student readers and writers with tools to achieve any goal. My tutoring interests are flexible and I am qualified to tutor in nearly any reading or writing related field.

I enjoy spending time with my dog, cooking, reading, and writing. I also practice yoga and run whenever possible.
